WHAT DOES SYMPOSIUM REGISTRATION INCLUDE?
Symposium registration includes admittance to symposium events and programming including receptions, presentation sessions, demonstrations, and some workshops. Add-on events (marked with [$] on the schedule) can be added to your registration for an additional cost.
Accommodations and transport between symposium locations and venues within the listed dates, as well as some meals, are also included. In addition, spaces in pre-symposium tours and pop-up shops in Nagoya and Yamagata are reserved for symposium registrants.
Not included: international airfare, transport before and after program start and end dates (accommodations are easily accessible by train from airports and major stations), some meals.
WHERE DO I STAY?
Accommodations include practical business hotels within easy reach of train stations and symposium venues, as well as some traditional Japanese inns with hot springs in the mountains near Yonezawa. Due to limited room availability, symposium registrants may stay at different hotels in the same locale. Some hotels will have shared rooms. You can request a specific roommate or upgrade to a single room by purchasing a single supplement add-on.
Hotel details including amenities, locations, and directions from the airport will be posted at a later date.
HOW DO DEPOSITS WORK?
Purchasing a deposit guarantees you a place in that registration type. When we open symposium registration, you will "transfer" your deposit to apply it towards an official registration.
If you change your mind, you can choose to transfer your deposit to a different registration type when registration opens, as long as there is space available.
Deposits for symposium registration (Full Symposium, First Half, or Second Half) are 85% refundable until May 15, 2018.
Deposits for pre-symposium add-ons (Kyōto & Inland Sea Tour, Kyōto Tour, and Arimatsu 1-Day Workshop) are 100% refundable within 14 days of registration opening. This means that after program details are published and registration opens, you will have two weeks to either complete your registration or cancel your deposit.

WHEN WILL REGISTRATION OPEN?
We are working with our travel agents and program partners in Japan on the final stages of reservations and included programming. We’re planning to open official registration for the symposium in January 2018. Spaces in pre-symposium tours and workshops are limited and impact your travel dates, so secure your space with a deposit now!
We anticipate that more add-on programming during the symposium will be announced and open for registration later as details like instructors and timeslots get confirmed.
CAN I BRING A GUEST?
Yes, you may bring a guest! Limited spaces at a discounted rate are available for guest registrants and can be purchased on the registration website. Here are the rules:
- Guests must accompany a symposium registrant. Each registrant can bring one (1) guest.
- Guests will not be able to join registrants at symposium events such as presentation and plenary sessions, but will be welcome at social events and meals.
